Choose the right plant
Bush tomatoes are easiest for pots because they stay compact. Cordon tomatoes can work too, but they need stronger support and more attention.
Pot basics
- Use a large pot with drainage holes.
- Use fresh compost.
- Put the pot in the sunniest sheltered place you have.
- Water consistently.
- Feed when fruit starts to set.
Common mistakes
- Using a pot that dries out too quickly.
- Letting the compost swing from soaked to bone dry.
- Forgetting support as the plant gets heavy.
- Feeding too late or not at all.
